I have to sign in every time I use Building Access. Why?

Are you asked to log in every time you use Building Access? It is probably related to your privacy setting in the app.

If your privacy level is set to 4 or 5, you can sign in with your NetID once, and the app will remember your authentication status after that.

If your privacy level is set to 1, 2, or 3, you won’t be able to sign in to the Illinois app with your NetID. And “Building Access” will just redirect you to the Boarding Pass web site. That is why you have to sign in each time.

Boarding Pass versus Illini ID in the app

Figures 1 and 2 show Building Access on the Boarding Pass website and the Illini ID in the Illinois App.

Boarding Pass requires you to sign in each time you use it.

The Illini ID in the Illinois app shows not only your Building Access badge, but also a QR code that can be used to scan in your UIN. This is the same Illini ID that appears in the apps’ Wallet.

Check your privacy level

Go to Browse > Privacy > Manage and Understand Your Privacy.

The Browse Screen
The Privacy Center

Change your privacy level

Go to Browse > Privacy > Manage and Understand Your Privacy.

Set your Privacy Level to 4 or 5.

  1. Move the slider to the desired privacy level.
  2. Tap “Set My Privacy”.

Now when you tap “Building Access” you will be asked to sign in to the Illinois app rather than Boarding Pass.

The app will remember that you are logged in each time you use it.
